SLAVERY DAYS
by Hutchie Simeon
Because he's not white,
They think he's not polite.
Because he's black,
They want him to stay at the back.
But when we spoke our language,
They were astonished.
We showed them gold,
And lust filled their souls.
Because he's not white,
They treat him with spite.
Because he's black,
They put him into barracks.
Then, they ravished our women,
And humiliated our men...
Let them feel like lions in a den.
Because he's not white,
They rob his birthrights.
Because he's black,
They give him sack
To carry on his back.
Yet we sow the wheat,
While they reap the sweet.
They drove the buggy,
While we walked barefeet.
