Back in the autumn of 1993, when Sista Starr published the final print issue of Cool Runnings, I had been pondering the feasibility of an electronic magazine for about a year. The Internet was at the time virtually unknown, save to a handful of serious computer types. Desktop publishing, having only recently come into being, was a brand new industry. I had just purchased my first computer, and although I was completely lost when it came to producing anything of use, I was greatly excited by the future possibilities.

I found the idea most intriguing… someday readers might access publications via their computers and either read it on screen or print it out to read at their leisure. Never mind that almost no one within the reggae community had a personal computer at the time. Still, dreaming of the possibilities would leave me light-headed. Just imagine, no more marathon cut and paste layout sessions, no more printer deadlines, no more distribution hassles… just the freedom to communicate.

Today, with the event of the World Wide Web, there are heaps and heaps of magazines available online, some as web only publications, others augmenting regular print issues with online services. After an extended hiatus, Cool Runnings is ready to take its place on the "cyber- newsstand". We endeavor to establish on the Internet the same sort of diverse community of readers formerly enjoyed in print.

The purpose of Cool Runnings has always been to educate and uplift, primarily on the subject of reggae music and its associated cultures. "We do reggae write…" has long been our standard. Within the pages of Cool Runnings visitors will find interviews, artist profiles, music news, performance and record reviews, and much more. Please keep in mind that this site is in the midst of HEAVY construction. In the not too distant future it will contain archives on the first decade of the printed publication, a national reggae radio guide, a roots-related business directory, heaps of cool links and lots of other useful information, in addition to the regular features.

Cool Runnings' new Internet format will only improve with time, as we bring all services online. Please bear with us. We hope you like what you see within these pages and that you will come to visit us again and again. Tell your friends, neighbors and co-workers where
they can get a little
